GBV remains one of the most pervasive and devastating human rights violations in Tigray and across Ethiopia. In recent years, CRSV has been systematically used as a weapon of war—particularly in Tigray—leaving behind an estimated half a million survivors and tearing through the fabric of entire communities. This surge in violence has deepened an already entrenched GBV crisis. Yet even before the conflict, national data from 2016 showed that only 22.5% of survivors sought help, reflecting longstanding barriers to justice, protection, and healing.
In response, our Voices for Justice program centers survivors in the fight for accountability and systemic change. We believe that justice must begin with those most impacted. Through this program, we amplify survivor voices, challenge impunity, and work to reform institutions that have long failed to respond to GBV with the urgency and care it demands.
