Strengthening Health Systems

Access to comprehensive SRH services depends on strong, responsive, and resilient health system. In Tigray and other conflict-affected regions in East Africa, structural challenges, under-resourced facilities, and the impacts of conflict have severely limited the availability and quality of essential SRH services—especially for marginalized communities.

Our Strengthening Health Systems program strives to address these gaps by investing in the foundations of care. We believe that a robust health system is critical to advancing health equity and ensuring that everyone—regardless of gender, identity, or background—can access the services they need to lead healthy, dignified lives.

Through this program, we work to:

  • Equip health facilities with essential medical equipment and supplies to support the delivery of comprehensive, high-quality SRH services.
  • Provide capacity building Trainings for healthcare providers, with a focus on improving clinical skills and fostering inclusive, rights-based, and client-centered care.
  • Collaborate with local partners to drive sustainable improvements in service delivery and ensure systems are responsive to the realities on the ground.

By strengthening the systems that deliver care, we work to build a path toward a more just, inclusive, and accessible SRH future for all.
2025 Health System Report
Over 70% of Tigray’s health facilities were left nonfunctional due to conflict. Through partnerships, we provide state-of-the-art medical equipment and supplies, rebuild sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, and strengthen healthcare systems to ensure survivors receive quality care.
Gradual Change
Survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) face significant challenges in Ethiopia’s legal system. We provide legal counseling, rights education, and courtroom advocacy while training public defenders to adopt survivor-centered approaches.
